Abhishek Sharma smashed 106* (29) in the chase of 143 against Meghalaya.
Batting records continue to tumble in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 as Punjab opener Abhishek Sharma equaled Gujarat’s Urvil Patel’s record of the fastest T20 century by an Indian batsman by smashing a 28-ball ton against Meghalaya on Friday.
On December 3, 2024, Urvil hammered a 28-ball century against Uttarakhand and etched his name in the T20 cricket’s record book for hitting the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian batsman and the second-fastest in the world, taking just one ball more than Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who holds the record for the fastest T20 century off 27 balls against Cyprus.
On December 5, Abhishek joined Urvil on this record tally with his 28-ball century against Meghalaya at the Niranjan Shah Stadium C, Rajkot.
Abhishek’s thunderous knock made a mockery of Meghalaya’s first innings total of 142. Chasing 143, the left-handed opener who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL went in his trademark gung-ho approach right from the onset of his innings, remaining unperturbed by the fact that he lost two batting partners for single digit scores.
Abhishek clobbered eight fours and 11 sixes in his jaw-dropping innings of 106* off 29 balls as Punjab gunned down the target of 143 runs in only 9.3 overs. The left-hander batted at an astonishing strike rate of 365.51!
