Abhishek Sharma has been India’s best batter in T20Is.
India recently completed their three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with the final game being played in New Delhi. The series was another chance for India to look at their options in the shortest format and give more international game time to some of its regular players.
The final match was also a special one for Abhishek Sharma. The left-handed opener played one of the best T20I innings by an Indian batter, smashing 108 runs from just 34 balls.
Abhishek reached his century in only 30 balls, breaking Rohit Sharma‘s record for the fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter. He hit 11 sixes and nine fours as India posted 221/7 before bowling Afghanistan out for 94.
The youngster also finished the series with 209 runs and was named Player of the Match as well as Player of the Series. His performances have now brought him into limelight for a bigger role in India’s T20I setup.

According to a report by Vaibhav Bhola of News 24, Abhishek Sharma is among the names being considered for a bigger leadership role in India’s T20I team. He is likely to become vice-captain of the team.
The development comes as Ajit Agarkar prepares to step down as chairman of the BCCI senior men’s selection committee. With a change expected in the selection setup, India’s leadership group could also see some fresh names being considered for the future.
There has been no official announcement about Abhishek being appointed vice-captain. However, his recent performances and growing role in the T20I team have made him a candidate for the position.
Abhishek has also received strong backing from captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Speaking after his record-breaking century against Afghanistan, he explained how important that support has been for his batting.
“It’s very important for the captain and the coach to be on your side. You have to get surety. I feel this is because of them as well.”
