5. 296 vs Sri Lanka, 2024, Colombo
Afghanistan displayed strong resistance in the only test of their tour of Sri Lanka in 2024.
Facing a 241-run deficit in the first innings, Afghanistan played out 112.3 overs to score 296 runs against a potent Sri Lankan spin attack. Afghanistan’s fightback was led by Ibrahim Zadran, who played a remarkable knock scoring 114 run.
Sri Lanka ultimately won the game by 10 wickets comfortably.
4. 314 vs Ireland, 2019, Dehradun
One of Afghanistan’s most remarkable batting performances came in Dehradun against Ireland in the 2019 series.
Replying to Ireland’s 172, Rahmat Shah led Afghanistan to 314 runs with his 98-run knock. He was well supported by Hashmatullah Shahidi and captain Asghar Afghan, who both contributed with half-centuries each.
The strong batting performance helped them register a comfortable seven wicket victory on the fourth day.
3. 342 vs Bangladesh, 2019, Chattogram
The Bangladesh Cricket Team were on the receiving end of a thrashing from Afghanistan when the visitors posted a massive total of 342 in Chattogram in 2019.
Batting first, the top-order pair of Rahmat Shah (102) and Asghar Afghan (92) laid the foundation for a big total with a 120-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Afghanistan ultimately clinched the test with a 224-run win and Rashid Khan was named Player of the Match for taking 11 wickets in the game.
2. 545/4d vs Zimbabwe, 2021, Abu Dhabi
Afghanistan’s second-highest team total of 545/4(d) came against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi in 2021.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan thrashed the Zimbabwe bowling attack, scoring 545 runs in 160 overs. Hashmatullah Shahidi made history by scoring Afghanistan’s first double century (200), with strong support from Asghar Afghan, who made 164.
Afghanistan won the game by six wickets on the fifth day.
1. 699 vs Zimbabwe, 2024, Bulawayo
Afghanistan recorded their highest-ever test total of 699 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2024.
After conceding 586 runs in the first innings, Afghanistan made a strong comeback by posting a total of 699 runs in 197 overs. Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored with 246, while Rahmat Shah also scored a double century, making 234.
