Afghanistan all set to host India in T20I series; Know full details, dates, venues & more
The Afghanistan vs India series will be played in September.
The Indian Cricket Team are currently focused on preparations for the two-match Test series preparations against Sri Lanka. The Shubman Gill-led side played a warm-up game in Colombo, helping the players to get familiar with the conditions ahead of the opening Test in Galle.
In the Practice game, players like Devdutt Padikkal and Mohammed Siraj showed great cricketing skills while Shubman Gill also returned after recovering from a finger injury, which he sustained in nets.
While the Test squad is busy in Sri Lanka, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also started working on the upcoming assignments of the Indian team after the Sri Lanka tour. The Bangladesh Cricket Board had earlier planned a six-match white-ball series between September 01 and September 13.
However, there were discussions about whether India would travel to Bangladesh or play a bilateral series against Afghanistan during the September window.
But now the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially confirmed that India will play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in New Delhi after receiving approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Afghanistan vs India T20I series schedule
The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that the three-match T20I series will be played from September 13 to September 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
According to Cricbuzz, an official letter was sent by ACB CEO Naseeb Khan to the Board’s commercial partners; the schedule has already been agreed by the BCCI, and all venues have been finalised for the series.
- IND vs AFG 1st T20I – September 13
- IND vs AFG 2nd T20I – September 15
- IND vs AFG 3rd T20I – September 17
Interestingly, this will be the first time Afghanistan will officially host India in a bilateral series, although all three matches will be played in India.
“The ACB hereby confirms that the India tour of Afghanistan 2026 is scheduled to take place from September 13 to September 17. The ACB further confirmed that the dates of the event have been confirmed and agreed with the BCCI, and the venues of the scheduled matches have also been finalised.” said ACB CEO Naseeb Khan
He further added that “While an official public announcement regarding the event is yet to be made by the concerned authorities, the ACB is issuing this letter as an official confirmation of the scheduled dates and venues of the India tour of Afghanistan 2026. Accordingly, all media rights holders may proceed with their advance planning, scheduling and production agreement, resource allocation, promotional activities and other related preparation based on the above schedule.”
Broadcasters yet to be finalised for AFG vs IND series
While the series schedule has been confirmed, the TV broadcaster is yet to be announced officially. However, reports claimed that ITW Universe, which owns the media rights, is currently in discussion with JioStar, Sony Sports and Zee Unite8 for the TV rights. Meanwhile, FanCode is expected to stream the series digitally.
