Afghanistan Cricket is about to make history this September.

India and Afghanistan are all set to take on each other in an important T20I series later this month, with both teams looking to build momentum before major upcoming ICC tournaments. The match between the two teams has always been special as they share a good bond and competitive nature.

Afghanistan have made a massive rise as a good team in Asia and now, they have been defeating some of the other big teams like Australia and England. It has been an incredible journey for Afghanistan, and now, they are slowly emerging as the second-best side in Asia after India.

Afghanistan and India set for historic T20I series in September

As per the reports in Times of India, Afghanistan are set to host India for a three-match T20I series for the first time in cricket history, with all games likely to be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in September.

However, an official announcement is still awaited, as per TOI, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reached an agreement regarding the series. The matches are expected to take place on September 13, 16 and 19, respectively.

It will be a historic series for Afghanistan cricket. Although India and Afghanistan have faced each other multiple times in ICC tournaments and bilateral matches, Afghanistan has never officially hosted India before

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi is likely to serve as Afghanistan’s temporary home venue for the series. The report suggests that the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has been involved in planning the process and is adjusting its domestic schedule accordingly.

Why Delhi and not Kabul?

Afghanistan has been playing its “home” matches outside its country for over a decade due to security and political issues. They have previously played on venues like Greater Noida, Dehradun, and the UAE (Sharjah and Abu Dhabi) as temporary home grounds.

Now, Arun Jaitley Stadium will serve as Afghanistan’s home ground for the three-match T20I series against India with support from the BCCI and DDCA.

Series timing and Asian Games connection

The Timing of this series is very important for India as the 2026 Asian Games are all set to begin on September 23, 2026, in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Indian Cricket will enter the tournament as defending gold medalists. Therefore, this series will help both teams to evaluate their players before the tournament.

When will Afghanistan host India for the T20I series?

The three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and India is tentatively scheduled for September 13, 16 and 19, respectively.

Where will the Afghanistan vs India T20I series be played?

All the matches will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, which will serve as Afghanistan’s home ground.
