After the IPL 2023, Indian Cricket Team are scheduled to play the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in London from 7th June. Afghanistan might tour for a test match in India after the WTC Final. Details of the tour is still awaited. Both, BCCI and Afghanistan Cricket Board will be finalising the dates for one-off test between the two neighbors. Afghanistan have not played a Test in the last two years. They last played a test against Zimbabwe in March 2021 in UAE. So far they have played 6 tests and ended up winning 3 of them.

Afghanistan got their test status in 2018, they made their debut in the longest format of the game against India in the same year at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Afghanistan lost the test match within two days. As per the media reports, Afghanistan Cricket Board is looking to schedule a short trip to India. The Indian team will have a window before their scheduled West Indies tour in July. Both boards will sit together and decide on the number of games and other things related to the Afghanistan tour of India.

A BCCI source has informed the media, “Yes the Afghanistan Cricket team will undertake a short trip to India in June, after the ICC World Test Championship Final”. BCCI has come out to support Afghanistan Cricket on several occasions. Previously they provided Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, Dehradun, and Greater Noida’s Cricket Stadium as home grounds for the Afghanistan Cricket Team. Afghanistan is yet to host an International match in their own country.

Many players from Afghanistan have grown massively by playing in IPL and other leagues around the World. Afghanistan and Ireland were the two teams given test status together. Ireland recently played a test against Bangladesh.
