Shubman Gill slammed four centuries during the ENG vs IND test series.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Ajay Jadeja feels that Ravindra Jadeja gave a more consistent batting performance than Shubman Gill during the recent test series between the Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team. Gill finished as the highest run-scorer in the five-match series with 754 runs in 10 innings.

At an average of 75.40, the Indian skipper hammered four centuries in the series to break plenty of batting records. However, he fell short of just 21 runs to break Sunil Gavaskar’s historic record for most runs by an Indian batsman in a test series (774).

Jadeja was equally impressive with the bat in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. With one century and five half-centuries, the Indian all-rounder piled up 516 runs in 10 innings at an incredible average of 86.0. With the ball, Jadeja captured seven wickets in his kitty across five games.

Ravindra Jadeja has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill – Ajay Jadeja

While speaking on Sony Sports Network’s show Extraa Innings, former India batter Ajay Jadeja heaped praises on Ravindra Jadeja for his batting show against England. The 54-year-old commentator said that Jadeja was a more consistent batter than Gill during the series, noting the fact that he remained not out in four innings.

“Is anything required to be said? The man has shown you what he can do. I think outstanding. Shubman Gill has scored 754 runs, and you are saying that he has reached close to the best”, he said.

“He (Ravindra Jadeja) has scored nearly 550 runs. He has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill. He had four innings that didn’t end, because the batting ended from the other end,” he added.

He also mentioned that Jadeja lost his wicket cheaply in only two innings and led a wonderful fightback in the Lord’s test. Jadeja scored an unbeaten half-century in the second innings during India’s 193-run target, setting up crucial partnerships with the tailenders. However, India lost the match by just 22 runs in the end.

“In the entire series, there were only two innings where he got out early. If we try to remember his moments, it started with Lord’s, where you couldn’t win for sure, but he and (Mohammed) Siraj fought there”, Jadeja said.

“A change was seen there. The fortitude started from there. Then he kept standing in the next match and drew the match. Then he scored runs in this match (last Test) as well,” he added.

Meanwhile, the five-match test series ended in a 2-2 draw after India won the fifth test at The Oval, London, by six runs in a close-fought encounter.

Mohammed Siraj, who clinched nine wickets in the clash, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, won the Player of the Match award. Gill and Harry Brook were awarded Player of the Series awards.
