Ajinkya Rahane has played for six teams in the IPL.
Ajinkya Rahane is one of the few players who featured in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and are still part of the league.
In the IPL 2025, Rahane will be part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) setup once again. He was with KKR in the IPL 2022 season before playing a couple of seasons for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
At the IPL 2025 mega auction, KKR roped in Ajinkya Rahane for his base price of INR 1.5 crores. Since KKR parted ways with their IPL 2024 title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer, the three-time title winners will be naming a new skipper.
On Monday, March 3, KKR officially named Rahane as their captain for the upcoming season and named all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer as his deputy.
KKR would be banking on Rahane’s vast experience as a player and his previous experience of leading in the IPL.
Rahane has played for six franchises in his IPL career. The majority of his career was spent with Rajasthan Royals (RR). He was with RR from 2012 to 2015. RR were then banned for two seasons and when they returned, Rahane was roped back again. His second stint at RR for of two seasons, in 2018 and 2019.
During RR’s two-season suspension, Rahane played for Rising Pune Supergiant and even led them.

Ajinkya Rahane captained Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant in a combined 25 matches from 2017 to 2019. Out of these 25 games, his team won only nine matches and lost 16. Under Rahane, RR reached the playoffs in IPL 2018 but failed to reach the final.
In the next season, RR started poorly and after a string of losses under Rahane, Steve Smith was given the captaincy.
