Veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from international cricket. He shared the news of his retirement through Instagram, where he uploaded a video with the caption, “Cap 278, signing off.”
The 36-year-old represented India in all three formats, playing 85 Test matches, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is. He scored 5,077 runs in Tests at an average of 38.46, with 12 centuries and 26 fifties. In 90 ODIs, he scored 2,962 runs at an average of 35.26, with three centuries and 24 fifties. He also scored 375 runs in the 20 T20Is he played.
More than just numbers, Rahane was known for his grit and dedication to Indian cricket, especially in Test cricket. He was one of the most dependable catchers in the slips, ruling that area for years. Even though he never got the chance to become the full-time captain of the Test team, he was the vice-captain of the team for many years when Virat Kohli was at the helm.
