Ravindra Jadeja was not included in India’s ODI squad for Sri Lanka tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced two different squads for the upcoming away white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Surprisingly, BCCI snubbed veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which will from August 2.

After lifting the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June, Jadeja announced his retirement from T20I cricket, and expressed that he will continue to serve Indian Cricket Team in other two formats of the game. The all-rounder was also part of India’s squad in the ODI World Cup in 2023.

Ajit Agarkar reveals the reason behind Jadeja not playing the ODI series against Sri Lanka

Recently, few media reports stated that Indian selectors included all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in the white-ball teams as they wanted to give them more chances to them instead of Jadeja. The reports also claimed that the selectors want to have further options ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Reacting to all the rumors and media reports, chief selector Ajit Agarkar has finally opened up about the reason behind Jadeja not being selected for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Ahead of the departure of the Indian cricket team for Sri Lanka, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that it would have been pointless to take both Axar and Jadeja for a three-match ODI series as it would be injustice to keep a player warming the bench entire series.

Agarkar explained that with the upcoming home season coming after the Sri Lanka tour and also a big test season coming up, Jadeja has been rested for the whole Lanka white ball tour.

“It would have been really pointless to take both Axar and Jaddu for a three-match series,” Agarkar explained. “He has had a terrific World Cup. Not at all dropped. Either of them wouldn’t have featured in games had we taken him. There’s a big test season coming up. I think probably we should have clarified it when the squad was announced. He is still part of the format. He is a very important player for us,” Agarkar said during the press conference ahead of Sri Lanka series.
