ENG vs IND: Akash Deep dedicates 10-wicket match haul at Edgbaston to sister suffering from cancer

The Indian Cricket Team defeated the England Cricket Team by 336 runs in the second test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, July 6. Indian pacer Akash Deep delivered a brilliant performance in the encounter, picking 10 wickets across both innings.
Akash replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian XI for the Edgbaston test. He picked up a four-wicket haul in the first innings to help India bowl out England for 407 runs. In the second innings, he returned with a six-wicket haul to claim ten scalps in the match and power India to a massive victory.

After the match, the right-arm pacer dedicated his incredible performance to his elder sister, who has been suffering from cancer for the last two months.
“My older sister is suffering from cancer for the last two months. Now she is stable. She will be very happiest after all that she has gone through mentally and I dedicate this match to her. I want to see a smile on her face,” Akash said after the match.
“This performance is for you. Whenever I picked the ball, only thoughts of my sister crossed my mind. I am with you. I want to see happiness on your face, we are all together with you,” he further said.
Akash Deep lost his father and brother to COVID-19
A few years back, Akash lost his father and elder brother to COVID-19. He lost his brother just six months after his father’s death. He has two sisters in his family.
Talking about the Edgbaston test, India registered a huge victory by 336 runs to make a comeback in the series. After being asked to bat first, India posted 587/10 in the first innings with a double century by Shubman Gill. Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul helped them bowl out England for 407 runs and earn a 180-run lead in the first innings.
In the second innings, Gill smacked a ton to power India to 427/6d and set a gigantic target of 608 runs for the hosts. With Akash’s six wickets, India bundled out England for 271 runs in the second innings to win the clash. The five-match series is now tied 1-1. The third test will be played at the Lord’s, London from July 10.
