Australia ended day one on 326/8 with Alex Carey scoring 106 and Usman Khawaja making 82.
Alex Carey was the saviour for Australia on day one of the third Ashes 2025-26 test against England. This match started on December 17, 2025, at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, and Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, Jofra Archer had other plans as he and Brydon Carse dismissed the top three for relatively cheap scores. He dismissed Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne for 18 and 19 respectively, while Travis Head fell for Carse for 10 runs.
Cameron Green followed soon for a duck, while Usman Khawaja, who got a chance to play this test thanks to the illness of Steve Smith, scored a brilliant 82 with 10 fours. But it was Alex, who saved Australia from further embarrassment by scoring his maiden Ashes Test hundred. Australia were 94-4 at that point, but Usman Khawaja and Carey added 91 for the fifth wicket.

On 73, Carey attempted, but failed, to punch a short-pitched ball from Josh Tongue through cover point. Ben Stokes reviewed, but the verdict was still pending.
Although the Snickometer detected a sound, it was found that the spike indicating the sound occurred before the ball hit the bat.
Relieved, Carey proceeded to achieve his first Ashes century, hitting the milestone with a three-run cover drive off Stokes. The entire Adelaide Oval crowd cheered Carey on as soon as he scored his first Ashes century.
It was a well-earned innings in which he showed his patience, poise, and resolve against England, and his teammates applauded him from the dressing room.
After reaching the milestone in the ongoing third Ashes 2025-26 Test, Carey took off his helmet to acknowledge his home crowd, as Mitchell Starc came over to hug him and congratulate him.
In an attempt to slog-sweep Will Jacks, he fell for 106. With Mitchell Starc (33) and Nathan Lyon (0) at the crease, Australia ended the day 326-8.
