List of all New Zealand players ruled out of NZ vs IND ODIs

Injuries force the Black Caps to make changes to their squad ahead of India ODIs.

New Zealand will enter the upcoming ODI series against India (NZ vs IND) without two key players, with Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra ruled out of all five matches due to injury.

The five-match contest begins on November 4 in Auckland, giving the hosts a challenging start as they prepare to face India with changes to their original squad. While Chapman’s recovery from a hamstring problem is taking longer than expected, Ravindra is also working his way back from a shoulder injury.

Chapman is expected to need approximately two more weeks before he can resume playing. His absence removes an experienced batting option from New Zealand‘s middle order, where he has regularly contributed in different situations.

Ravindra’s unavailability is another concern for the hosts. The all-rounder has not yet regained sufficient shoulder fitness to cope with the demands of white-ball cricket.

With India also scheduled to play two Test matches in New Zealand later this month, the team management is keen to avoid putting his recovery under unnecessary pressure.

The two withdrawals have changed New Zealand’s squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert, who was initially selected only for the last two matches, will now be available for the entire series.

Henry Nicholls has been included for the first three ODIs, while Dean Foxcroft will join the group for the final two matches. Nicholls recently strengthened his selection claims with a century for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy. Foxcroft also brings previous international experience, having played against the West Indies.

Head coach Rob Walter acknowledged that losing Chapman and Ravindra would affect the team’s plans but backed the replacements to step up. He also mentioned that Chapman’s recovery is progressing well, while Ravindra’s fitness for the upcoming Test assignment remained an important consideration.

New Zealand’s fast bowler Matt Henry is also being monitored ahead of the series. He will join the squad and undergo an assessment to determine his availability for the opening match.
