RCB bought the all-rounder for his base price of 1.5 crores in the IPL 2024 auction.

The IPL 2024 auction saw some incredible moments, including breaking the previous record for the most costliest player. Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in auction history and fetched INR 24.75 crore from the Kolkata Knight Riders. All ten IPL franchises were active during the event. Royal Challengers Bangalore also made some exciting signings at the event. RCB entered the auction with a purse value of INR 23.75 crore.

RCB mainly picked bowlers and all-rounders. West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph was bought for INR 11.50 crore by the RCB. Uncapped pacer Yash Dayal also fetched INR 5 crore from the franchise. Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson (2 crore) and English all-rounder Tom Curran (1.5 crore) were the other notable signings by the franchise. Overall, they bought six players at the auction.

RCB’s new recruit Tom Curran banned for 4 BBL matches

Tom Curran will provide an all-round option for the RCB, and he is pretty good at it. He is currently part of the Sydney Sixers in Big Bash League 2023-24 (BBL 2023-24) and has been handed a four-match ban. He was found guilty of breaking the level-3 offense as per Cricket Australia’s code of conduct for intimidating an umpire. Though the Sixers have confirmed that they will “vigorously appeal” for the punishment.

It happened during the 5th match of the ongoing BBL 2023–24. The Sixers played against the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston on December 11, which they eventually won by six wickets. According to a report by CA, the all-rounder was completing his run-up before the start of the game during a practice drill. The fourth umpire had a word with him and asked him not to get onto the pitch.

This is when it all happened. The report further suggests that Curran deliberately ran onto the pitch despite being warned by the umpire. He also ran towards the umpire, who had to move aside to avoid the collision. The match referee, Bob Parry, charged Curran under Article 2.17 for intimidation or attempted intimidation of an umpire, match referee, or medical personnel, whether by language or conduct (including gestures) during a match.
