Team-wise money spent in the IPL 2024 auction
INR 230.45 crore was spent by all 10 franchises in the recently concluded IPL 2024 auction.
The recently concluded IPL mini-auction 2024 in Dubai saw a few records shattering in the bidding process. For the first time in the history of the league, IPL auction was held away from India, and Dubai was chosen as the venue for the mini-auction. Two Australians, Pat Cummins (20.50 Crore INR) and Mitchell Starc (24.75 Crore INR) ended up getting the biggest deals from Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.
Apart from these two purchases, most of the teams had a few great bargain buys. Travis Head (6.80 Crore) Wanindu Hasaranga (1.50 Crore), Gerald Coetzee (5 Crore), and a few others. Kolkata Knight Riders spent the most in the bidding as they ended up spending 31.35 crores INR out of 32.70 crores INR remaining in the purse. 10 – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) – 12.20 crore INR :
Lucknow Super Giants had two decent seasons in Indian Premier League since their debut in IPL 2022. Lucknow Super Giants had 13.15 crores INR to spend in the IPL mini-auction held in Dubai and they ended up buying 6 players with 2 overseas players. Lucknow Spent 12.20 crores INR on Shivam Mavi (6.40 Crore), Arshin Kulkarni (20 Lakh), M. Siddharth (2.40 Crore), Ashton Turner (1 Crore), David Willey (2 Crore), and Md. Arshad Khan (20 Lakh).
9 – Rajasthan Royals (RR) – 14.30 crore INR :
The winners of the Inaugural Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals had 8 remaining slots to fill in the squad with 3 overseas players. Rajasthan had 14.50 crorse and spent almost their entire amount in the IPL mini-auction. Rajasthan Royals purchased Rovman Powell (7.40 Crore), Shubham Dubey (5.80 Crore), Tom Kohler-Cadmore (40 Lakh), Abid Mushtaq (20 Lakh) and Young South African pacer Nandre Burger (50 Lakh).
8 – Mumbai Indians (MI) – 16.70 crore INR :
Five-time Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians needed 8 slots to fill in the squad with 3 overseas players and 17.75 crores INR left to spend. Mumbai Indians spent 16.70 crores INR in the IPL mini-auction in Dubai. Mumbai targeted Gerald Coetzee (5 Crore), Dilshan Madushanka (4.60 Crore), Shreyas Gopal (20 Lakh), Nuwan Thishara (4.80 Crore), Naman Dhir (20 Lakh), Anshul Kamboj (20 Lakh), Mohammad Nabi (1.50 Crore), and Shivalik Sharma (20 Lakh).
7 – Delhi Capitals (DC) – 19.05 crore INR :
Delhi Capitals needed 9 slots to fill in IPL mini-auction 2024. Delhi had a big purse of 28.95 crores INR remaining and they went on to spend 19.05 crores. Delhi got some big buys from the auction and purchased, Harry Brook (Rs. 4 crores), Tristan Stubbs (Rs. 50 lakh), Ricky Bhui (Rs. 20 lakh), Kumar Kushagra (Rs. 7.20 crore), Rasikh Dar (Rs. 20 lakh), Jhye Richardson (Rs. 5 crore), Sumit Kumar (Rs. 1 crore), Shai Hope (Rs. 75 lakh), Swastik Chhikara (Rs. 20 lakh).
6 – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – 20.40 crore INR :
Royal Challengers Bangalore have a huge fan base in IPL. RCB had 23.25 crores INR remaining in their purse and they spent 20.40 crores in the auction. They bought Alzarri Joseph (Rs. 11.50 crore), Yash Dayal (Rs. 5 crore), Tom Curran (Rs. 1.5 crore), Lockie Ferguson (Rs. 2 crore), Swapnil Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Saurav Chauhan (Rs. 20 lakh). RCB spent hugely on pace bowlers.
5 – Punjab Kings (PBKS) – 24.95 crore INR :
Punjab Kings maintained their core squad for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Despite having very few slots (6) to fill, Punjab Kings had 29.10 crores INR left in the purse and they went on to spend 24.95 crore on buying Harshal Patel (Rs. 11.75 crore), Chris Woakes (Rs. 4.20 crore), Ashutosh Sharma (Rs. 20 lakh), Vishwanath Pratap Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Shashank Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Tanay Thyagarajan (Rs. 20 lakh), Prince Choudhary (Rs. 20 lakh), Rilee Rossouw (Rs. 8 crore).
4 – Gujarat Titans (GT) – 30.30 crore INR :
The IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans had the maximum amount in purse (38.15 Crore) entering the auction to spend on players. GT spent almost 80% of their remaining purse to add Azmatullah Omarzai (Rs. 50 lakh), Umesh Yadav (Rs. 5.80 crore), Shahrukh Khan (Rs. 7.40 crore), Sushant Mishra (Rs. 2.20 crore), Kartik Tyagi (Rs. 60 lakh), Manav Suthar (Rs. 20 lakh), Spencer Johnson (Rs. 10 crore), Robin Minz (3.60 crore) and filled 8 slots with 2 overseas names.
3 – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – 30.40 crore INR :
Defending champions Chennai Super Kings had the best IPL mini-auction 2024 in Dubai and spent almost entire remaining purse on purchasing Rachin Ravindra (Rs. 1.8 crore), Shardul Thakur (Rs. 4 crore), Daryl Mitchell (Rs. 14 crore), Sameer Rizvi (Rs. 8.40 crore), Mustafizur Rahman (Rs. 2 crore), Avanish Rao Aravelly (Rs. 20 lakh). CSK in a bargain buy got Rachin Ravindra for just 1.8 crore INR.
2 – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – 30.80 crore INR :
Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the most proactive franchise in the IPL mini-auction. They spent 30.80 crores INR on Travis Head (Rs. 6.80 crore), Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs. 1.5 crore), Pat Cummins (Rs. 20.50 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (Rs. 1.60 crore), Akash Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Jhathavedh Subramanyan (Rs. 20 lakh). They had 34 crores remaining in the purse with only 6 slots remaining including 3 overseas options entering the auction.
1 – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – 31.35 crore INR :
Kolkata Knight Riders spent the most during the IPL mini-auction held in Dubai. KKR spent almost 80% money on just one player. KKR spent 24.75 crores INR on Mitchell Starc and the rest of the amount on KS Bharat (Rs. 50 lakh), Chetan Sakariya (Rs. 50 lakh) Angkrish Raghuvanshi (Rs. 20 lakh), Ramandeep Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Sherfane Rutherford (Rs. 1.5 crore), Manish Pandey (Rs. 50 lakh), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Rs. 2 crore), Gus Atkinson (Rs. 1 crore), Sakib Hussain (Rs. 20 lakh).
