Hardik Pandya plays a crucial role in India‘s white-ball setup. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him a vital part of the Indian side. The star all-rounder provides extra balance to the team, but his fitness remains a concern for the Indian management.
He missed a few matches in IPL 2026 due to injury and later suffered another setback, which delayed his international comeback, even as he had been working hard to return. As a result, several of India’s assignments were completed without Pandya.

After featuring in the T20 World Cup 2026, Hardik Pandya initially struggled with back spasms during the IPL 2026, which forced him to miss 4 of Mumbai Indians’ 14 matches. After his IPL campaign ended, he reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he underwent rehabilitation.
Although initially he was cleared for the Afghanistan ODI series after handling a full workload during his fitness assessment, Pandya subsequently suffered a quadriceps injury. This setback delayed his international comeback by weeks.
Before the England series, the all-rounder suffered a setback and was unable to attain the fitness required for limited-overs cricket. Pandya’s return to the Indian team ahead of the Afghanistan T20I series faced another obstacle due to a fresh niggle during training at the CoE.

Afghanistan tour of India – ODI series
Pandya was ruled out of the three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan due to a quadriceps injury during his rehabilitation.
India tour of Ireland – T20I series
Hardik Pandya could have made a comeback to the Indian team ahead of the two-match T20I series against Ireland. However, his return was further delayed.
India tour of England – ODI and T20I series
Another setback during his rehabilitation delayed his comeback, and he could not make a return to the Indian squad for the three-match ODI and five-match T20I series.
India tour of Zimbabwe – T20I series
After suffering heavy defeats against Ireland and England, Shreyas Iyer & Co. wanted to utilise the experience of their most trusted all-rounder for the Zimbabwe T20Is; however, Pandya could not regain fitness in time for the series.
India tour of Afghanistan – T20I series
With the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan scheduled for September 2026, Pandya has once again missed the opportunity to make a comeback to international cricket.
Will Hardik Pandya make a comeback at the Asian Games 2026?
His return to international cricket is uncertain after a fresh leg niggle during training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. However, the star all-rounder is not part of India’s Asian Games squad anyway.
