Virat Kohli has won the Player of the Tournament award twice in a row in the T20 World Cup.
India won the T20 World Cup 2026 title after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final played in Ahmedabad on Sunday. It was their third title in the tournament’s history. Apart from this, India became the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cup titles.
The Men in Blue became the first team to win the T20 World Cup title on home soil and the first to defend the title. Starting from June 2024, it was their third ICC title win in close to two years.
India scored a massive 255/5 in their 20 overs with contributions from Sanju Samson (89), Ishan Kishan (54), and Abhishek Sharma (52) in the final. In response, the Kiwis were bowled out for just 159 runs with Jasprit Bumrah taking 4/15.

Farhan surpassed Kohli’s tally as he ended the tournament with 383 runs from six matches at an average of 76.60 and a strike rate over 160.
He scored 2 hundreds in the tournament. Despite Farhan’s batting heroics, Pakistan failed to qualify for the knockouts. Virat Kohli remains the only cricketer to have finished as the leading run-scorer in two different T20 World Cups. Kohli amassed 319 runs in the 2014 edition and 296 runs in 2022.
Brian Bennett – Highest average in a T20 WC Tournament

Zimbabwe batter Brian Benette broke Virat’s record for having the highest average in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Kohli averaged 106.33 in the 2014 edition, while Bennett averaged 146 in the 2026 edition. He scored 292 runs in the tournament, including a brilliant 97* in the Super 8 game against India.
Sanju Samson – Most runs for India in a T20 WC tournament

Samson surpassed Kohli’s score for the highest score by an Indian batter in a T20 World Cup chase. Previously, Kohli scored an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne, chasing 161 to win against Pakistan.
The Kerala batter scored an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls against the West Indies in a virtual quarter-final in Kolkata in the 2026 edition. India were chasing 196 to win the match at the Eden Gardens.

Sanju Samson went on to hit 12 fours when he scored an unbeaten 97 to win the game for India against the West Indies in Kolkata. This is by far the most fours hit by an Indian batter in a T20 World Cup match across the 10 editions of the T20 World Cup.
In the 2014 World Cup, Virat Kohli hit five fours each in the semi-final and final against South Africa and Sri Lanka, respectively. He hit six fours in the T20 World Cup 2022 match against Pakistan in Melbourne.
Most runs for India in consecutive Innings
Sanju Samson scored 97*, 89, and 89 in three consecutive matches in the 2026 edition. The unbeten 97 came against the Windies, and the 89’s came against England and New Zealand.
Cumulatively, that stands to 275 runs in three innings. Kohli, in his 2014 dream run, scored 149 across the two innings in the semi-final and the final.

Sanju Samson batted for 108 minutes in the T20 World Cup 2026 match against West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. England skipper Harry Brook led his team to the T20 World Cup semi-finals. Unfortunately, his side lost to India in the knockout clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Brook ended the tournament with 235 runs, at an average of 29.38 and a strike rate touching 160.
Brook went on to surpass Virat Kohli’s 82* against Pakistan in Melbourne as he scored an unbeaten 100 in Colombo chasing 165 to win. The win ensured England’s passage to the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Kiwi opener Fin Allen ended the tournament as the second-highest run-getter for New Zealand with 298 runs at an average of 49.67 and a strike rate of exactly 200. The highest run-scorer for the Kiwis was Tim Seifert with 326 runs, averaging 46.57 and striking at 166.33.
