Amit Mishra also opened up on LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s animated chat with captain KL Rahul in IPL 2024.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants finished seventh in the league stage with 14 points 14 games. The Rahul-led LSG failed to qualify for IPL playoffs for the first time.

LSG were tied on 14 points with fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who qualified for the playoffs due to their higher net run rate in the 2024 edition.

Under the leadership of Rahul, LSG reached the playoffs in two consecutive seasons in 2022 and 2023. Overall in the IPL, Rahul had a good captaincy record for Lucknow-based franchise. Rahul has led the LSG team 37 times till now. The Rahul-led side won 20 games and lost 17.

LSG will look for a better than Rahul in IPL 2025: Amit Mishra

Meanwhile, LSG spinner Amit Mishra in a recent podcast expressed his thoughts on team’s captaincy. He feels that KL Rahul doesn’t have mentality to lead a T20 side and the franchise will look for options going into the next season in 2025.

“It does not matter if he is in the Indian team or not. But a person who has the right mentality for T20s should be the captain. Someone who plays for the team should be captain. I am sure LSG will look for a better captain,” Amit Mishra said during his interaction with Subhankar Mishra.

Interestingly, Mishra had played under Rahul’s captaincy in IPL 2023 and 2024.

It was not a huge deal: Amit Mishra on Sanjay Goenka having an animated chat with LSG skipper Rahul

During the IPL 2024 match between LSG and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad, the Pat Cummins-led SRH crushed Rahul’s Lucknow by 10 wickets. LSG posted 165 on the board, but Hyderabad openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head unleashed their beast mode and the chased 166-run target in just 9.4 overs.

Following the game, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an animated chat with captain Rahul. Later on, Goenka hosted Rahul at his home for dinner to end all rumors and speculations regarding their on-field chat.

During the podcast, Amir Mishra revealed that he was disappointed when LSG were thrashed by the Sunrisers by 10 wickets. However, the leg-spinner said that people hyped the chat between Goenka and Rahul after the game and it was nothing big.

“Goenka was disappointed. We lost two back-to-back matches very badly. Against KKR, we lost by some 90-100 runs and against SRH, the match was finished within 10 overs. It felt like we were bowling them during a net practice session. If I am so angry about it, will someone who has actually put money into the team not feel angry?” Mishra said.

“It was not a huge deal. But I later came to know that he said that the bowling was very bad and the team should have shown some fight. It looked like you have completely surrendered. But I feel people and media hyped it up a bit,” he added.
