Former India spinner Amit Mishra has revealed how Indian players celebrated after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Led by MS Dhoni, India defeated England by five runs in a nail-biting final to win the ICC title that year.

The rain-affected game at Edgbaston was shortened to 20 overs per side. In the first innings, India piled up 129/7 on the scoreboard. Shikhar Dhawan (31), Virat Kohli (43), and Ravindra Jadeja (33*) scored crucial knocks for the team.

Later, Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin picked two wickets each to restrict England to 124/8 in the second innings. Eoin Morgan (33) and Ravi Bopara (30) hit crucial knocks for the side, however, they could not power the team to victory.

Amit Mishra, who was a member of the squad, in a conversation with ANI, Mishra revealed that Indian players celebrated in the dressing room for three-four hours after winning the trophy.

“After winning the Champions Trophy, nobody went to their room. After winning in England, everyone was sitting in the dressing room for 3-4 hours. Everyone was saying let’s celebrate. But nobody wanted to go,” he said.

“Everyone started celebrating in the dressing room. We were in the dressing room for 3 to 4 hours, and everyone was happy. It was an effort of the whole team. Dhoni is a very cool captain. But he was also very happy and was enjoying that moment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mishra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, September 4. He played 22 tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India, with his last international game in 2017. Over the years, he was a popular figure in Indian Premier League (IPL), playing 162 games in the tournament.
