India women’s team head coach Amol Muzumdar compared this star to Ben Stokes.
Indian women’s team scripted history against the England women’s team in the only test played at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. India defeated England by a huge margin of 347 runs to register the biggest-ever test victory by a team in women’s test cricket. This is also India’s first-ever win against England in a red-ball format played at home in India. India maintained their dominance against the English side and won their 3rd ever test in history. England have won only one test match against India.
Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma played magnificently in the one-off test against England and went on to take 9 wickets in the game. She also contributed with the bat immensely to India’s fabulous win and scored 87 runs in the game. Deepti scored a half-century in the first innings batting at number 7 and a 20-run cameo in 18 balls in the second innings that powered India to a huge total in the game. She bowled with a magical figure of 5/7 in the first innings.
Deepti Sharma ‘The Ben Stokes of the team’
With her magical performance, Deepti Sharma earned huge praise from Indian women’s team coach Amol Muzumdar who called Deepti ‘The Ben Stokes of the team.’ While talking to WV Raman after the game Muzumdar said, “You are talking about Stokesy, I jokingly call her Ben Stokes of the team.” Deepti’s spell in the first innings helped India restrict England to just 136 runs total and gave India a huge lead of 291 runs.
Indian Women’s team head coach Amol Muzumdar said, “She is fantastic. The confidence she has shown in her batting and the confidence she has gained in these two innings – nine wickets in the Test match and a fifty! She is an important cog in the wheel when she comes to bat in the lower order, bowls crucial overs and gets wickets.” Deepti scored a fifty in the first innings and took India’s total to 428 runs, which was enough to put pressure on the English side.

Apart from Deepti Sharma, new-ball bowler Renuka Singh bowled brilliant opening spells in both innings and provided crucial breakthroughs to Team India. England won the three-match T20I series by 2-1 against India that took place before the Test match. All-rounder Deepti Sharma won the player of the match award.
