India refused to accept the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.

Indian women’s team delivered a magnificent performance in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final, defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai to clinch the title. India secured victory after a magnificent display of batting and bowling; the team posted 183/5 and bowled Sri Lanka out for 111 runs.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma started with a 129-run opening stand, while Shree Charani took four wickets. India reclaimed the title from the defending champions Sri Lanka, who defeated them in the Women’s Asia Cup final in 2024.

This is India’s eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. However, controversy arose during the trophy presentation, as the Indian team did not appear on the podium to receive it following the BCCI’s stance on ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

It mirrors the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup final, where the Indian men’s team also refused to take their trophy from Naqvi. The trophy presentation incident is another example of the heightened tensions between the two countries.

The ceremony was delayed by about an hour because, during the wait, the Indian team held its own medal presentation ceremony.

Naqvi, the PCB Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, was present on the podium with ACC officials; however, Indian players did not come up to receive the trophy or medals from him.

After the match, India’s head coach Amol Muzumdar addressed the issue. He clarified that this was BCCI’s decision, not the team’s.

“India are officially the champions. Trophy or no trophy doesn’t matter to us. This is BCCI’s stand to not take the trophy; we can’t say anything on this,” said Amol Muzumdar via post-match conference.

According to Muzumdar, the team was more focused on the victory than the presentation ceremony. Moreover, he said India had won the title and were preparing for their next challenge, the Asian Games.
