Currently, Andy Flower is the head coach of RCB in the IPL.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) head coach Andy Flower has confirmed that he will not apply for the post of head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team.

In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Bengaluru finished the league phase in the fourth position with 14 points and qualified for the playoffs. However, they suffered a heartbreaking defeat by four wickets against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is inviting applications for the role of head coach of the national side. Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. The deadline to apply for the post is May 27.

Will not be applying for the India head coach role: Andy Flower

There are a few former cricketers who are being considered front-runners for the head coach role. The BCCI has reportedly approached Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting.

Andy Flower, though, has taken his name out of the hat, saying that he is happy with his involvement in the T20 franchise leagues around the world.

“I have not applied and I would not be applying for the job. I am happy with my involvement in the franchise league at the moment. I am really enjoying it. It is fascinating stuff and I have worked with some amazing organizations, and I am happy with that at the moment,” said Flower in the post-match press conference after RCB’s loss against RR in the Eliminator of IPL 2024.

Flower served as the head coach for England from 2009–2014 and had a successful stint. He coached the Three Lions to their maiden ICC T20 World Cup title in 2010. During his stint, the English side climbed to the top of the ICC Test Rankings in 2011.

Flower also coached the Trent Rockets to the title in The Hundred tournament in 2022.
