Angelo Mathews got “Timed Out” for taking more time in BAN vs SL CWC 2023 match in Delhi.

Cricket has seen many instances when some unexpected things happened on the field. But this sport never shies away from surprising the fans. One such moment was captured in the ongoing game between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh when Angelo Mathews was given out without facing a ball. The match no. 38 is underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bowl first. Sri Lanka had some good contributions in the batting order, and a few players got some good starts. Pathum Nissanka scored 41 off 36 balls, with 8 boundaries at the top, while Sadeera Samarawickrama made a 42-ball 41 in the middle order. But none of the Sri Lankan batters has scored a half-century until now.

Sri Lanka had a 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Charith Asalanka and Samarawickrama. Both batters were looking good and scoring boundaries on the good balls. But that partnership was broken by Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who dismissed Samarawickrama on the second ball of the 25th over. His wicket brought Angelo Matthews to the crease. But the veteran brought the wrong helmet with him.

Angelo Mathews went back to take his helmet, which took a long time for him to come to the crease. As a result, the Bangladeshi team appealed to the on-field umpires, and they had a word with Matthews. Though the batter tried to explain his situation to Bangladesh, they didn’t withdraw the appeal, which resulted in Matthews being “timed out.” It was certainly a shocking way to get out, and even the commentators were surprised.

As per the rule, after the wicket or retirement of a batter, the next batter should be ready to face the ball within 3 minutes, or else he can get out. That’s what happened in Delhi. Though the Sri Lankan camp doesn’t look happy, it is within the rule, and Sri Lanka were on the receiving end of it.
