[Watch] Angry Rashid Khan throws his bat at batting partner after being denied strike during AFG vs BAN match

Rashid Khan was furious at his batting partner Karim Janat for not being given the strike against Bangladesh.

With a semi-final place on the line, tensions were bound to rise when Afghanistan met Bangladesh for the last Super 8 fixture of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan expressed anger at his teammate in a brutal manner by throwing his bat at batting partner Karim Janat when being denied the strike.

Afghanistan needed a victory or a washout against Bangladesh to go past Australia on the Group 1 points table and seal their place in the semi-finals.

With every run worth in gold on the slow surface at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, Rashid was perhaps right in getting angry at Janat for being denied a chance for an extra run in the last over of their innings. However, his actions of hurling his bat at Janat in anger weren’t right.

In the last over of Afghanistan’s innings, Rashid smoked pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a six on the second ball. On the next delivery, the ball took a leading edge off his bat and flew toward cover where the fielder made a fielding mistake. Rashid and Janat had sprinted a single but Rashid wanted to return for the second run with the fielder making a slight error. He was almost halfway down the pitch but Janat wasn’t interested in the second run and denied it.

Rashid Khan was livid and angrily hurled his bat at Janat before walking back to the non-striker’s end. The bat landed near Janat’s feet at the striker’s end. Janat brought Rashid his bat and seemed to want to chat a bit but the Afghan skipper wasn’t interested, took his bat and returned to the crease.
