Gujarat Titans (GT) crushed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 89 runs in the 66th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 on May 21. Their 89-run win at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad made their case strong for Qualifier 1 of the tournament.
After being asked to bat first, GT had a staggering start to their innings as their openers in Shubman Gill (64) and Sai Sudharsan (84) carried on their golden form. They looked flawless and hammered magical half-centuries, adding 125 runs for the opening stand.
Both the batters went past 600 runs in the league and set the platform for a huge total. Jos Buttler (57*) also played a brilliant innings as Gujarat posted a total of 229 for four.
In the chase, CSK had a horrible start as they lost Sanju Samson on a golden duck. Soon after that, Mohammed Siraj picked two more wickets in Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel to leave Chennai at 29 for three.
Matthew Short (24), who opened the innings, looked good but fell after a solid start. Shivam Dube (47) looked the best batter from his team and kept his team in the hunt. However, CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ultimately got out for 140, losing the game by 89 runs.
Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan clinched three wickets each. Notably, CSK needed to win the match to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
