Delhi Capitals suffered a 8-wicket loss against CSK in IPL 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) completed a brilliant win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The five-time champions registered a brilliant eight-wicket win at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 05.
DC had a poor start to their innings as both their openers KL Rahul (12) and Pathum Nissanka (19) fell inside the powerplay. Things didn’t get any better after that as DC kept losing wickets at regular intervals with half of their side back in the hut with scorecard reading 69 for five.
It was then that DC decided to send Sameer Rizvi (40*) as an impact player. He played his part perfectly and was supported well by Tristan Stubbs (38) as the two put on 65 runs for the sixth wicket. Ashutosh Sharma (14) also hit a few big hits in the end as DC managed 155 for seven.
In the chase, CSK didn’t have the kind of start they had hoped for as captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (6) lost his wicket early. Urvil Patel (17) entertained fans with a few big hits but he couldn’t go past the 20-run mark.
These were the only two wickets that DC managed as Sanju Samson (87*) came up with yet another masterclass. He hit a stupendous half-century, while Kartik Sharma (41*) carried on his good form. The Samson-Sharma duo added 114 runs for the third wicket that powered CSK to an eight-wicket win.
Delhi Capitals qualification scenario for IPL 2026 playoffs after loss to CSK
Despite the loss against CSK, Delhi Capitals are still very much in contention to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs. After the loss, they are placed at seventh spot in the points table with four wins and six defeats out of ten games.
With 8 points to their name, DC have four more games remaining in IPL 2026. To qualify, the Axar Patel-led side need to win all of their games, and if that happens, it will take them to 16 points, which is usually considered a safe spot for qualification.
If they lose one of their remaining four games, they will have 14 points. This too might secure them a spot in playoffs, but they would want other results to go their way. If DC lose more than two games, they will be eliminated from the tournament.
