Are Pakistan eliminated from T20 World Cup 2026 after losing to England in Super 8?

Pakistan lost to England in their second game of the Super 8 Round in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Pakistan lost to England by two wickets in their second match of the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2026. Even after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Salman Agha & Co. failed to post a mammoth total on the board; reaching 164/9 with a lone half-century by opener Sahibzada Farhan.

Pakistan got off to a marvellous start while defending their target, reducing England to 58/4 in the eighth over. Pacer Shaheen Afridi took three wickets in the first five overs to put the opposition on the back foot.

However, captain Harry Brook played an anchor role in the chase, smacking a wonderful century. Hitting 10 boundaries and four sixes, the right-handed batsman scored 100 runs off 51 deliveries.

With his impeccable hundred, Brook single-handedly changed the course of the match. Although England lost a few quick wickets towards the end, they reached the target in the first ball of the 20th over. With the victory, England booked a berth in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026.

After defeating Pakistan, England take the top spot in the Group 2 points table with four points and have qualified for the semi-finals from Group 2. On the other hand, Pakistan are now placed in the second spot with one point. Their opening game against New Zealand was washed out due to rain.

Even after the defeat against England, Pakistan are active in the race for the semi-finals. However, their qualification will also depend on the outcome of the other matches.

To reach the semi-finals, Pakistan will have to win their last match against Sri Lanka at all costs. Then, if New Zealand lose both of their next two matches against England and Sri Lanka, Pakistan will qualify for the semis.

Also, if the Black Caps win only one match, both Pakistan and New Zealand will finish with three points each, and Net Run Rate (NRR) will come into effect. Moreover, if Sri Lanka win their next two games, both Pakistan and New Zealand will be eliminated.
