Arshdeep Singh likely to be included in India's test squad for England series - Reports

Arshdeep Singh has not played any test match for India so far.
The Indian Cricket Team will play a five-match Test series against England from next month. The 1st test will commence on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. The series will conclude in the first week of August with the 5th test match at Kennington Oval.
With the retirement of veteran members Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Tests, the Indian team will face a tough challenge in England, who are known to dominate in home conditions. Moreover, Indian selectors also need to nominate a powerful skipper to lead the team in the longest format after the ouster of former test captain Sharma.
Shubman Gill is a front-runner to lead the Indian Team in tests. The right-handed batsman has been a regular opener for the test team for the last few years. According to reports, Jasprit Bumrah has already stepped down from captaincy as he is unsure of playing all five games during the England series. Bumrah has led the Indian Team in the past when skipper Sharma was unavailable.
Arshdeep Singh likely to be picked for England test series- Reports
Other than captaincy, the Indian selectors’ other challenge is to form a powerful pace unit for the India vs England test series. While Bumrah will lead the pace attack for Team India against Ben Stokes & Co., he will need a helping hand in the pace department. According to reports, Arshdeep Singh is expected to get a place in India’s squad against England.
The left-arm pacer has already cemented his place in the shortest format and played 63 matches. He has picked 99 wickets at an economy of 8.30. He has also featured in nine ODI games. The 26-year-old was picked in the India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year. However, Singh has not played any test matches so far.
Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami are two crucial pacers for India in the longest format. However, Siraj struggled to impress in the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025, which India eventually lost 3-1. On the other hand, Shami last played a test match for India in June 2023 during the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final.
