Ashleigh Gardner finally breaks silence on cheating allegations levelled by estranged wife

Ashleigh Gardner is the vice-captain of the Australian women’s cricket team.
Ashleigh Gardner last played in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, where Australia won their seventh T20 World Cup trophy. They dominated throughout the whole tournament, staying unbeaten.
Gardner, the vice-captain, chipped in with 150 runs and 3 wickets in the tournament. She had two half-centuries, against India (53* off 29) and Netherlands (58 off 32). She also played a brilliant knock of 35* off 20 against West Indies in the semi-final.
She was named Player of the Match for her explosive innings and a bowling spell of 2/13 in the semi-final. This guaranteed Australia’s berth in the final at Lord’s. Australia won that contest by 7 wickets under the captaincy of Sophie Molineux.
However, Ashleigh has been in the spotlight ever since the World Cup. Shortly after the World Cup ended, reports on her alleged affair with a fellow teammate surfaced after her estranged wife, Monica Wright, shared controversial posts on social media. Ashleigh Gardner clears the air about the cheating allegations
Ashleigh Gardner married Monica Wright in April 2025. However, their marriage unravelled months later, in November, during the World Cup in India. Shortly after this, the couple separated; there were also rumours of an affair between Gardner and her Australian teammate.
After the T20 World Cup ended, Monica shared details about this affair on Instagram. She alleged that her partner cheated on her with Australian batter Georgia Voll. Recently, Wright also demanded that she be stripped off of her leadership role.
On August 13, Gardner posted an Instagram story talking about this issue. She wrote, “While my separation from my wife is a personal matter, I understand my current relationship status needed to be addressed by Cricket Australia given my position as vice-captain.” This comes especially after Wright pointed out Cricket Australia’s inaction and silence on the matter.
She further wrote, “I am grateful that the CA Board has chosen to support my continued leadership. I look forward to playing a strong role as a leader and providing the best possible support for my teammates in the season to come.“ She apologised to Monica for the pain caused and further requested privacy in this matter.
Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Todd Greenberg, commenting on the situation, said, “Ash is our vice-captain for a reason, because she’s highly regarded, but what we will do is in situations where there are personal relationships is make sure there are additional guardrails, so the perception of conflict or conflict itself – talking about things like selection – are handled appropriately and respectfully.”
He added, “We’ve got policies in place, but we will put additional ones in place given Ash is now vice-captain. If there are relationships that have been disclosed and they have been, then we will make sure that conflict – perceived or real – around selections are removed, so Ash is not involved in those things.”
The Australian women’s team will not play any matches until October. They will be playing an ODI series against Bangladesh comprising three matches.
