Marco Jansen clinched six wickets for 48 runs in the first innings of the Guwahati test.

Former Indian bowlers Ravi Ashwin and Irfan Pathan heaped rich praise on Marco Jansen for his marvellous bowling show in the ongoing second test between Indian Cricket Team and South Africa Cricket Team. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

After his heroics with the bat, Jansen ensured that he complements that with his bowling. He clinched a six-wicket haul in the first innings of India’s batting, dismissing key batters in Dhruv Jurel, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. He troubled the Indian batters with his short ball ploy and returned with the figures of 6/48 in 19.5-over spell.

India were bowled out for 201 runs in the first innings, with the visitors earning a huge lead of 288 runs. His all-round effort with the bat and ball has put India under immense pressure as South Africa now look hot favourites to win the match.

Following Jansen’s brilliant bowling show in the first innings, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and former pacer Pathan lauded him on the micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter). Ashwin called him a serious talent, pointing out how he is becoming better day by day with the ball.

“Terrific from Marco Jansen. He is a serious talent, long levers giving him an amazing bat swing and getting better by the day with the ball,” said Ashwin.

Pathan, on the other hand, termed his spell as one of the finest by pacers on Indian pitches.

While, Ashwin and Pathan appreciated South Africa’s performance, cricketer-turned-commentator Vaughan did not shy away from taking a dig at India over their dismal batting show and inability against left-arm seamers. He continued his social media war with Wasim Jaffer and said:

“Hi @WasimJaffer14.. Hows today going .. ? Left arm seamers are not easy to face ..”.

Jansen also starred with his batting in the first innings, smacking a 93-run knock to help the Proteas post a gigantic total of 489 runs. He etched a crucial partnership of 97 runs with Senuran Muthusamy (109), who hammered a century.

At the stumps on day 3, South Africa reached 26/0 on the scoreboard, leading by 314 runs. They lead the two-match series 1-0, winning the first test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata by 30 runs.
