Pakistan qualified for the super 4 round after their high-voltage clash with India, which was abandoned after the first innings. Persistent rain forced both teams to shake hands and share the points in group A. Pakistan dominated the game entirely, except on a few occasions when Ishan Kishan (82) and Hardik Pandya (87) took India out of the crisis with their 138 runs for the fifth wicket. Shaheen Afridi once again rattled the Indian top order and castled both of India’s premier ODI batters, Rohit (11) and Virat (4). India lost four wickets early, and then Kishan and Pandya played marvelous knocks to give India a breather. Pakistan restricted India to 266 runs as Shaheen Afridi ended up picking 4, and Naseem and Haris picking up 3 wickets each.

As the game ended in a draw, both teams will be sharing one point each in group A. Pakistan have now qualified for the super 4 round as they have 3 points in their two league games. Pakistan thrashed Nepal by 238 runs to earn 2 points from their Asia Cup 2023 opener. On the other hand, India need one win to secure their place in the super four from group A. India will be playing their final league game against Nepal on September 4 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. India’s place also looks almost certain, as inexperienced Nepal might not pose a big threat against India, only a huge upset can prevent them from qualifying for the next round.
