Afghanistan defeated Hong Kong by 94 runs in match 1 of Asia Cup 2025.

Afghanistan and Hong Kong clashed in the opening game of Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday, September 9. The Rashid Khan-led side registered a massive win of 94 runs as Hong Kong failed to chase down a 189-run target in the encounter. With a top knock of 39 runs by Babar Hayat, Hong Kong could only reach 94/9.

During the chase, Hong Kong lost both openers Zeeshan Ali (5) and Anshuman Rath (0) cheaply. Key batters like Nizakat Khan (0), Kalhan Challu (4), and Kinchit Shah (6) also lost their wickets for single digits as their batting failed collectively. Gulbadin Naib and Fazalfaq Farooqi picked two wickets each for Afghanistan.

Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first in the encounter. Opener Sediqullah Atal played a wonderful knock of an unbeaten 73 runs, while Azmatullah Omarzai hammered a quickfire 53 runs off 21 deliveries. Their knocks propelled Afghanistan to 188/6. Ayush Shukla and Kinchit Shah clinched two scalps each for Hong Kong.
