Asia Cup 2025: Updated points table after match 1, Afghanistan vs Hong Kong

Afghanistan beat Hong Kong by a massive margin of 94 runs in the opening game of Asia Cup 2025.

The Afghanistan Cricket Team completed a dominating victory against Hong Kong in the opening game of Asia Cup 2025. The tournament opener took place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, where Afghanistan won by a massive margin of 94 runs. 

Afghanistan didn’t have a great start to their innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz lost his wicket for eight after hitting a big six. Soon, after that, Ibrahim Zadran fell too as the Rashid Khan-led side was left tottering at 26 for two. 

However, after that, Sediqullah Atal (73*) and Mohammad Nabi (33) brought their team back in the game. The duo added 51 runs for the third wicket. Atal carried his bat till the end and slammed a solid fifty. 

But the real blitz came from Azmatullah Omarzai (53), who played a brutal innings and added 82 runs with Atal for the fifth wicket. Thanks to their partnership, Afghanistan posted a total of 188 for six. For Hong Kong, Kinchit Shah was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of two for 24.

In the chase, Hong Kong had a terrible time with the bat. Anshuman Rath bagged an unfortunate golden duck at the top, and then the others followed. Afghanistan were top-notch with the ball and in the field, reducing Hong Kong to 22 for 4 inside five overs. 

Babar Hayat (39) tried his best with the bat, but the class of Afghanistan was too much for him to handle. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib bagged two wickets each as they restricted Hong Kong to 94 for nine to win the game by 94 runs.

After the opening of the game of Asia Cup 2025, Afghanistan are at the top of the points table of Group B, while Hong Kong slipped to last. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are yet to open their account. 

The Group A points table remained as it is. India will be taking on the United Arab Emirates in the opening game of this group on Wednesday (10th September) in Dubai.
