Sri Lanka beat Hong Kong by four wickets in match 8 of Asia Cup 2025.
Sri Lanka continued their golden run in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 as they registered their second straight win of the tournament. They beat Hong Kong by four wickets at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai and almost booked their berth in the Super Four Stage.
Hong Kong had a brilliant start to their innings with the bat as Zeeshan Ali (23) and Anshuman Rath (48) put pressure on the Sri Lanka bowlers, adding 41 runs for the opening partnership.
Babar Hayat failed to make an impact, but the hero of the innings was Nizakat Khan (52*). He, along with Anshuman, added 61 runs for the third wicket as Hong Kong tackled the spinners brilliantly in the middle.
Nizakat stayed unbeaten in the end, guiding his team to a total of 149 for four. For Sri Lanka, Dushamantha Chameera bagged two wickets.
Sri Lanka, in the chase, lost Kusal Mendis, who struggled to get going. However, in the form opener, Pathum Nissanka (68) held the fort and kept scoring runs quickly at one end. Kamil Mishara (19) and Kusal Perera (20) supported him brilliantly as Sri Lanka were cruising in the chase.
Skipper Yasim Murtaza brought his side back in the game with quick wickets as Sri Lanka were reduced from 119 for two to 127 for six in no time. With the team under pressure, Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga (20*) held their nerves and took their team past the finishing line.

In Group A, India are at the top spot and have qualified for the Super Four stage. Pakistan are second, followed by the UAE, while Oman are yet to register a win and have been eliminated from the tournament.
In Group B, Sri Lanka moved to the top spot with four points. They have almost booked their spot in the Super Four stage and are followed by Afghanistan at two. Bangladesh are third followed by Hong Kong at the last spot.
