Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have qualified for the Super four stage of Asia Cup 2025 from Group B.

Sri Lanka qualified for the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2025 along with Bangladesh as they defeated Afghanistan in match No. 11 of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. They completed a brilliant six-wicket win at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Afghanistan didn’t have the kind of start they would have wanted in the must-win game. Both openers in Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sediqullah Atal started off well, adding 26 runs for the opening partnership.

But both the batters perished early along with Karim Janat, who was promoted up the order. Ibrahim Zadran (24) tried to hold the fort but Sri Lanka kept taking wickets at regular intervals, leaving Afghanistan at 114/7. It was then that Mohammad Nabi (60) oozed his class and slammed a vital fifty including five sixes in the last over.

Skipper Rashid Khan (24) played his part as Afghanistan posted 169/8, which at one moment seemed impossible. For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Thushara picked four wickets.

In the chase, Sri Lanka lost in-form opener Pathum Nissanka early. Soon after him, Kamil Mishara also perished as the Island Nation lost two key wickets inside power play. However, Kusal Mendis (74*) at one end played a stellar innings and kept putting Afghanistan under pressure.

Kusal Perera (28) supported him well as the duo added 45 runs for the third wicket before spinners brought Afghanistan back in the game. But the brilliance of Mendis was too much for them to handle. Kamindu Mendis (26*) also played his part as Sri Lanka chased the target with six wickets in hand.
