Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in the first match of the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2025.

Sri Lanka Cricket Team faced their first loss of the Asia Cup 2025 as Bangladesh Cricket Team thrashed them by four wickets in the first match of the Super Four stage. The match took place at Dubai International Stadium, where Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field.

Sri Lanka had a brutal start to their innings with both openers Pathum Nissanka (22) and Kusal Mendis (34) going great guns at the top. They added 44 runs for the opening stand inside five overs. However, they lost three wickets quickly after that and were reduced to 65/3. 

With the team under pressure, Dasun Shanaka (64*) changed the complexion of the innings. The all-rounder hit a whirlwind fifty and took his team to the fighting total. He got support from Kusal Perera (16) and skipper Charith Asalanka (21) as Sri Lanka posted a total of 168. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman bagged three wickets.

Bangladesh had a poor start to their innings as Tanzid Hasan Sakib bagged a two-ball duck. But after that, Saif Hasan (61) and skipper Litton Das (23) counter-attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers, adding 59 runs for the second wicket. 

Once Litton was back to the hut, Towhid Hridoy (58) took charge and along with Saif, who hit a solid fifty, stitched 54 runs for the third wicket He got out in the 19th over, but his innings had already done the damage. Although, Bangladesh lost few wickets in the last over, they held their nerves and won the game by four wickets.

After the first match of the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh are at the top of the points table with two points and Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.121. Sri Lanka are second with one loss, while India and Pakistan are yet to play.
