The next edition of the Asia Cup will take place in 2027. Bangladesh are the hosts of the tournament, which will feature a battle among Asian giants for the title.
The Asia Cup 2027 will be played in the 50-over format as the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 is set to take place next year. Hence, it will be a perfect platform for Asian teams to prepare for the ICC tournament.
India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup. Last year, the Men in Blue outplayed Pakistan in the final to win the trophy. The clash is one of the most controversial games between India and Pakistan, as Suryakumar Yadav & Co. were not handed the trophy even after the victory.
Remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament, the Men in Blue displayed magnificent form and dominated all other Asian rivals. Also, in the lead-up to the title, the T20 World Cup 2026 champions defeated Pakistan three times.
India will aim to defend their title in the Asia Cup 2027 but will be led by Shuman Gill this time, as he is the current ODI captain. At the same time, they will have to prove their mettle on Bangladeshi soil, where the pitch and weather conditions are similar to India.
Asia Cup 2027 to take place from June 18 to July 4 – Reports
According to a Cricbuzz report, the Asia Cup 2027 will start on June 18 next year. The final will take place on July 4. Mirpur, Chattogram, and Sylhet are three proposed venues in Bangladesh that will host all the matches. However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to provide an official update.
Interestingly, due to the monsoon, there is a high chance of rainfall in India and Bangladesh during June and July. Despite this, the BCB has scheduled the tournament during these two months. Therefore, rain could affect matches during the 2027 Asia Cup and prove to be a crucial factor.
Notably, Bangladesh did not travel to India for the T20 World Cup earlier this year, which also led to their ouster from the tournament. The BCB urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reschedule their matches in Sri Lanka just ahead of the tournament, a proposal which was denied.
Eventually, Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the 20-team tournament, which India won. The severe relations between India and Bangladesh will be a big point of discussion ahead of the Asia Cup 2027.
Last year, a white-ball series between both sides was also called off. It will be interesting to see whether India travel to Bangladesh or urge for a neutral venue, as has been the case with matches between India and Pakistan.
