The next edition of the Asia Cup will take place in 2027. Bangladesh are the host of the tournament, which will feature a battle among Asian giants for the title.
The Asia Cup 2027 will be played in the 50-over format as the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 is set to take place next year. Hence, it will be a perfect platform for Asian teams to prepare for the ICC tournament.
India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup. Last year, the Men in Blue outplayed Pakistan in the final to win the trophy. The clash is one of the most controversial games between India and Pakistan, as Suryakumar Yadav & Co. were not handed the trophy even after the victory.
Being unbeaten throughout the tournament, the Men in Blue showed impeccable form and dominated all other Asian rivals. Also, in the lead-up to the title, the T20 World Cup 2026 champions defeated Pakistan three times.
India will aim to defend their title in the Asia Cup 2027 but will be led by Shuman Gill this time, as he is the current ODI captain. Also, they will have to showcase their might on Bangladesh soil, which has a similar pitch and weather conditions like India.
Asia Cup 2027 to take place from June 18 to July 4- Reports
According to a Cricbuzz report, the Asia Cup 2027 will start on June 18 next year. The final will take place on July 4. Mirpur, Chattogram, and Sylhet are three proposed venues in Bangladesh that will host all the matches. However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to provide an official update.
Interestingly, the months of June and July have high chances of rain in India and Bangladesh due to the monsoon. Despite the fact, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has scheduled the tournament during these two months. Hence, rain could also impact games during the Asia Cup 2027 and turn out to be a crucial factor.
Notably, Bangladesh did not travel to India for the T20 World Cup earlier this year, which also led to their ouster from the tournament. The BCB urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reschedule their matches in Sri Lanka just ahead of the tournament, a proposal which was denied.
Eventually, Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the 20-team tournament, which was also won by India. The severe relations between India and Bangladesh will be a big point of discussion ahead of the Asia Cup 2027.
Last year, a white-ball series between both sides was also called off. It will be interesting to know if India will travel to Bangladesh or urge for a neutral venue, a norm which has been followed by the India and Pakistan teams.
