Asia Cup 2025: Abhishek Sharma leaves behind Rohit Sharma; Becomes first Indian to do this

Abhishek Sharma scored 30 in 16 balls as India chased down 57 runs in just 4.3 overs.

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma made sure that the Men in Blue made short work of the 57-run chase against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10, 2025, in Asia Cup 2025. This was India’s first game in the tournament in Group A.

Suryakumar Yadav had won the toss and chose to bowl first. The UAE started well, thanks to 22 by Alishan Sharafu and 19 by captain Muhammad Waseem, putting 47/2 on the board in powerplay overs. But then Kuldeep Yadav and Shivam Dube routed the UAE.

They lost their last eight wickets for 10 runs, with Kuldeep taking 4/7 and Dube taking three scalps for just four runs as UAE were routed for 57 runs.

In response, Abhishek Sharma hammered 30 in 16 balls before getting out to Junaid Siddique. Shubman Gill continued with 20* in 9 balls as India achieved the target with 9 wickets in hand in 4.3 overs.

Abhishek Sharma’s first-ball six gives him a huge record in T20Is

Abhishek Sharma had started well, hitting the first ball of the second innings, bowled by Haider Ali, for a six. Thus, he became the first Indian player to strike a six off the opening ball of the second innings.

After Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson, he became the fourth Indian player to score a six off the opening ball in a T20I innings.

India registered a 9-wicket win with 93 balls remaining. They will next face Pakistan in their second game in Dubai on September 14.
