Tillakaratne Dilshan was part of Sri Lanka’s ICC T20 World Cup title-winning campaign in 2014.

Former Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan feels that Asian teams have a strong chance to lift the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. The ongoing ICC tournament is being jointly hosted by the United States of America and West Indies.

So far, most of the pitches used in the tournament have been slow. While there has been help for pacers in New York and Dallas, spinners have dominated in the West Indies, which was expected as the surfaces there are slow and dry.

Dilshan, who was part of Sri Lanka’s title-winning campaign in the 2014 T20 World Cup, is expecting an Asian side to clinch the title due to spin-friendly pitches in the Caribbean Islands. The Super 8 round and the knockouts will be held in West Indies.

Dilshan also shed light on conditions in the United States. The former cricketer added that top teams will face a big challenge in adjusting to the conditions in the USA as most players haven’t played much cricket there.

“I think everyone will have a challenge and all the top teams never played in the US. After coming to the Super 8 rounds, all the Asian teams have an advantage because of West Indies tracks and they have turning pitches and that’s a huge advantage for the Asian teams. I feel one of the Asian teams will win this T20 World Cup,” Dilshan was quoted as saying by MyKhel.

Virat Kohli can’t alone win matches: Tillakaratne Dilshan

The Indian cricket team is all set to face Ireland in their first group stage match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 5. Ahead of this exciting clash, Dilshan said that although Virat Kohli is a match-winner by himself, he alone can’t win games and every Indian player needs to do well.

Dilshan further added that India has a slight advantage because the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 took place recently.

“I think yes, Virat Kohli is in very good form at the moment and he’s a match-winning player. But one player alone can’t win you matches; everyone has to contribute. All three departments have to be spot on. India has the advantage because the IPL just finished. Virat is one of the match-winning players. Hopefully, he can carry his IPL form to the T20 World Cup,” Dilshan added.
