Atharva Taide becomes 2nd batsman to be retired out in the IPL
Punjab Kings' batsman Atharva Taide scored 55 off 42 deliveries before retiring out against DC.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) clashed in the 64th match of the IPL 2023 on May 17, 2023, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Shikhar Dhawan had won the toss and chose to bowl first in Dharamshala.
PBKS included Kagiso Rabada and Atharva Taide while, Anrich Nortje and Prithvi Shaw are back for DC.
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw added 94 runs for the first wicket with the captain falling for 46 runs. Shaw made 54 in 38 balls, his first fifty this IPL 2023.
But the best knock came from Rilee Russouw who made 82* in 37 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes and also added 65* runs with Phil Salt who slammed 26* in 14 balls to take DC to 213/2 in 20 overs.
Sam Curran was the bowler to take both the DC wickets.

Set a target of 214 to win the game and stay alive in the race for the playoffs, Punjab Kings opened with Shikhar Dhawa and Prabhsimran Singh, who was off a brilliant century in his last outing. He took strike and played out a maiden in the first over.
Shikhar Dhawan took strike to his former India teammate Ishant Sharma in the second over and was out caught in the slips on the very first ball of the over. The ball was pitched on the Test match length, going across to Dhawan and the left-hander edged it to Aman Hakim Khan in the slips for a golden duck.
Atharva Taide and Prabhsimran Singh led a solid recovery with a 50-run stand after Punjab Kings lost a wicket early. Prabhsimran was the next to fall for 22 runs, after which Atharva Taide and Liam Livingstone took the attack to DC bowlers and their sloppy fielding with butter hands helped them.
Despite Taide making 55 in 42 balls, he was unable to hit the big shots with 5 fours and 2 sixes to his name, and with PBKS needing 86 in 30 balls, PBKS decided to retire out Taide and bring in Jitesh Sharma.
This made Taide only the second batter in IPL history to be retired out. The first was RR’s Ravi Ashwin in IPL 2022 in their match against Lucknow Super Giants.
