The first day of the fourth AUS vs ENG test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne saw as many as 20 wickets falling.

The Ashes 2025-26 is moving at a very steady pace and the same was the case in the Boxing Day test, which commenced on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. The Australia Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team engaged in an enthralling day of cricket with 20 wickets falling on day one.

England won the toss and put Australia into bat first. It was a tough day for batting as the hosts kept losing wickets right from the start. The wicket of Travis Head opened the floodgates as English pacers ran through the Australian batting lineup.

In no time, Australia were 51 for four before middle-order chipped in. Usman Khawaja (29) along with Alex Carey (20) led the rescue charge and then Cameron Green (17) and Michael Neser (35) took their team to 152. For England, Josh Tongue took a fifer.

It was expected that England would take a big first innings lead, but they came up with an even worse batting performance. They got all out for just 110 allowing Australia to take a lead of 42 runs, which came as a bit of a shock for many.

Harry Brook (41) fought fire with fire and played a counter-attacking innings. In the end, Gus Atkinson (28) played a vital hand as well which took England past 100 runs on the board. For Australia, Michael Neser took a four-fer.

In the second innings, with only one over left in the day’s play, Australia sent Scott Boland to open alongside Travis Head. They managed to stay unbeaten as the hosts ended day one with 4/0 with a lead of 46 runs.
