England will continue their batting in the second innings on Day 5 of the Sydney Test.
The Australia Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team are locking horns in the fifth test of The Ashes 2025-26, which is underway at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. The AUS vs ENG 5th test has entered its day 5, which will take place on Thursday, January 8.
On day 4, Australia finished with a mammoth total of 567/10 in the first innings, giving a strong reply to England’s first innings total of 384 runs.
In the second innings, England’s opening batsmen Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett failed to provide a good start to the batting, losing their wickets for 1 and 42 runs, respectively.
However, number three, Jacob Bethell, hammered an impeccable century to drive the team towards a powerful total. With his unbeaten 142 runs at the stumps of day 4, he played an anchor role in England’s batting as other batters failed to score half-centuries.
At the end of day 4, the visitors finished with 302/8 on the board, leading by 119 runs. Beau Webster clinched a three-wicket haul, while Scott Boland took two scalps for the hosts.
Bethell (142*) and Matthew Potts (0*) will resume England’s batting on day 5, with the visitors trying their best efforts to win the second game in a row.

The opening sessions of day five of the fifth AUS vs ENG test will begin at 5 AM IST, with the session set to end at 7 AM IST. Following it will be a 40-minute lunch break, which will be followed by the second session, running from 7:40 AM to 9:40 AM IST.
The tea break will last 20 minutes, after that. The last sessions on Day 5 at SCG will run from 10 AM to 12 PM IST. An extra 30 minutes is allowed to cover the daily quota of overs.
