Marcus Stoinis’ all-round heroics helped Australia beat Oman by 39 runs in Barbados.

Australia kicked off their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a thumping win by 39 runs against Oman on Wednesday night in Barbados. It was Marcus Stoinis who headlined the game with his all-round heroics, contributing significantly to Australia’s win with both bat and ball.

The AUS vs OMN encounter was played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, where Mitchell Marsh’s team got their first two points of the tournament with a victory over the Aqib Ilyas-led Oman side.

Ilyas won the toss and elected to bowl first. On a balanced track at the Kensington Oval, Australia posted 164 runs. While David Warner batted till the 19th over to score 56 runs in 51 balls, the boost to Australia’s innings was provided by Stoinis, who smoked 67 unbeaten runs in 36 balls. The right-hander walloped six sixes in his knock to go with two fours.

He had the best figures with the ball as well, overshadowing the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis. Stoinis returned with impressive bowling figures of 3/19 in his three-over spell in the match. Two of his wickets were middle-order batters Aqib Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood.

Stoinis duly bagged the Man of the Match award for his all-round heroics.
