The Australian Cricket Team are one of the successful sides in ODI cricket, who are known for dominating opposition teams at home as well as in foreign conditions. They are the most successful team in ICC Cricket World Cup history, winning six titles over the years.
They were also the first team to cross the 400-run mark in ODI cricket, which came during a clash against South Africa in 2006. Later, the 400-run mark was breached by many teams in 50-over cricket. Notably, England hold the record with 498/4 against the Netherlands in 2022.

5. 392/8 vs South Africa (2023)
Australia toured South Africa in September 2023 for a white-ball series. During the second ODI of the five-match series, the visitors piled up a gigantic total of 392/8 against South Africa after they were asked to bat first in the encounter, which took place at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein.
David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne hammered centuries, while Travis Head and Josh Inglis smacked fifties to power Australia to a mammoth total. Later, they bowled out the Proteas for 269 runs to win the clash by 123 runs. Spinner Adam Zampa picked up a four-wicket haul in the second innings.
4. 399/8 vs Netherlands (2023)

During a clash against Netherlands in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia posted 399/8 in the first innings. David Warner and Glenn Maxwell smacked centuries to set the platform for team’s mammoth total. Notably, Maxwell had hit a 40-ball ton in the game in Delhi, which is the fastest by an Australian batter in ODIs, and also the fastest in the ICC Cricket World Cup history.
Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne scored fifties to make a valuable contribution to the scoreboard. Later, the Pat Cummins-led side bowled out Netherlands for just 90 runs, winning the clash by a huge margin of 309 runs, which is the second-biggest win by margin of runs in ODIs.
3. 417/6 vs Afghanistan (2015)
During ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Australia slammed their second 400+ total in ODI cricket, which is now their third-highest total in ODIs. It came in a clash against Afghanistan. The encounter took place at WACA Ground in Perth. After being asked to bat first, opener David Warner propelled Australia to 417/6 with his spectacular 178-run knock.
Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell hammered crucial half-centuries. Later, Afghanistan succumbed during the challenging chase, getting bowled out for just 142 runs. Mitchell Johnson clinched a four-wicket haul to drive the team to victory by 275 runs.
2. 431/6 vs South Africa (2025)

In August 2025, Australia clashed with South Africa in third and final ODI of the series at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay. After losing the first two games, the hosts opted to bat first after winning the toss in a dead rubber, where they registered their third 400+ total in ODIs. They registered a massive total of 431/2.
Openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh hammered centuries to register a 250-run partnership for the first wicket. Later, Cameron Green, batting at No. 3, smacked a 47-ball ton to drive the scoreboard to 431/2. Wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey also slammed a fifty.
Later, Australia bowled out South Africa for 155 to win the match by a huge margin of 276 runs. However, they lost the three-match series 1-2.
1. 434/4 vs South Africa (2006)
In March 2006, Australia became the first team to cross the 400-run mark in ODI cricket. This game still owns the record for Australia’s highest total in 50-over cricket. Australia and South Africa clashed in the series-deciding fifth ODI at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
Electing to bat first, the visitors scripted a record for the then highest ODI total by posting 434/4. Skipper Ricky Ponting hammered a 164-run knock, while Adam Gilchrist, Simon Katich, and Michael Hussey hit fifties.
However, the Proteas made a wonderful comeback during the chase to stun the entire cricket fraternity. Herschelle Gibbs scored a stunning knock of 175 runs, while Graeme Smith and Mark Boucher scored half-centuries to snatch victory by one wicket. With the thrilling victory, South Africa also scripted the record for the highest-ever successful chase in ODI cricket.
