Australia will be captained by Pat Cummins in the series against the West Indies.
The Australian Cricket Team have announced their squad for the three-match test series against the West Indies Cricket Team. Fast bowler Sean Abbott has been included in the team after injury ruled out Brendan Doggett. The latter was part of the reserves for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.
Brendan Doggett was set to be part of the Australian squad for the West Indies series following his heroics in the domestic circuit. However, he suffered a minor hip injury and was forced to go back home. This presents an opportunity for Sean Abbott to reclaim his place in the team.
What caught the attention of many was the inclusion of Steve Smith. The right-hander suffered a finger injury during the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, and it was expected that he would be ruled out. However, his injury didn’t need surgery, and he will have to keep his right little finger in a splint for up to eight weeks.
The rest of the Australian squad is similar to what they had in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final. The Pat Cummins-led side faced a disappointing five-wicket loss against the South African cricket Team at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
The three-match test series against the West Indies will be the first one for Australia in the new cycle of the ICC WTC (2025-27). The Pat Cummins-led side would be keen to start the new edition on a high.
