Australia announce squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, Sophie Molineux returns

Alyssa Healy will lead Australia in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

On Friday (5th September), Cricket Australia (CA) announced Australia Women’s Cricket Team squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The tournament is all set to be played in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. 

Alyssa Healy will captain the Australian women’s cricket team in the tournament. The main highlight of the squad was the return of Sophie Molineux, who hasn’t played for the side since undergoing knee surgery in January. 

Sophie Molineux won’t be featuring in the ODI series ahead of the ICC event in India and Sri Lanka. But CA is optimistic that she will be fit for the tournament, which will be played over a span of one month. For the India series, uncapped spinner Charli Knott has been included as a cover for Molineux.

Along with Molineux, Phoebe Litchfield, leg-spinner Georgia Wareham, quick Kim Garth and batter Georgia Voll will be playing their first ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. They would be keen to make an impact and help Australia defend their title. 

Australia have named a spin-heavy attack which features Molineux, Wareham, a second leg-spinner in Alana King and off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner. The pace department features Kim Garth, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown, along with all-rounders Annabel Sutherland, Tahlia McGrath and Ellyse Perry.

Talking about the squad, Australia Women’s National selector Shawn Flegler said that this team is ready for the challenge. He also added that the experience of playing in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be beneficial for the team. She said: 

“A World Cup in India is one of cricket’s biggest assignments, but we believe this group is up for the challenge,” national selector Shawn Flegler said in a statement. 

“The valuable experience the squad has gained from several subcontinent tours in recent years, as well as exposure through the Women’s Premier League will be beneficial in tackling the unique demands of Indian conditions.
