Confirmed! Australia to face South Africa in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final

Australia will lock horns with South Africa in 2nd semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

We have reached the end of the group stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and the first three spots in the semi-finals have been booked. India became the first team to qualify with their unbeaten streak in the tournament. South Africa followed them to become the second team, and now Glenn Maxwell has powered Australia through to the semi-finals with an incredible innings against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

It was probably the best innings played in an ODI chase, where Maxwell single-handedly took his team to victory and smashed an unbeaten ODI double century. He made 201 not out from 128 balls, his innings included 21 boundaries and 10 sixes. This win helped Australia collect two more points, and they became the third team to qualify for the semi-finals.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: 2nd Semi-final will see a clash between Australia and South Africa

Now three teams have been confirmed, and one more spot is left to be grabbed. New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are fighting for that place. These three teams have one more game to play. Though New Zealand have a better chance with a good NRR, anything can be possible. On the other hand, as per the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the first semi-finals will be played on November 15 at Wankhede Stadium.

This game will see the first-ranked team take on fourth-ranked team. It means India will face either of the above three sides. In the second semi-finals, the second-ranked team will face the third-ranked team. It means there will be a clash between South Africa and Australia. This game will be played on November 16 (Thursday).

It will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. These two teams played earlier in the group stage, and South Africa beat Australia by 134 runs. But the knockout records of both teams show that Australia have a better hand over all other opposition. So we are in for an AUS vs SA semi-finals at Eden Gardens, which will be a treat to watch between the two powerhouses.
