Why was Vaibhav Suryavanshi out of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books with his batting show in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines on day 1 of the Vijay Hazare 2025-26 competition, scoring a stunning 190 off just 84 balls against Arunachal Pradesh, leading his team, Bihar, to a record-breaking total of 574: the highest score ever in List A cricket.
However, he did not feature in Bihar’s playing XI during their second round clash against Manipur on December 26. According to reports, Suryavanshi has now been excluded from the rest of the tournament.
Why has Vaibhav Suryavanshi been ruled out of the Bihar vs Manipur clash?

Suryavanshi has travelled to Delhi, the national capital, to attend the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) ceremony, where he is set to be conferred by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, for his outstanding achievements in cricket.
The above development was confirmed by the left-handed opener’s childhood coach, Manish Ojha, who also added that Suryavanshi had to report early in the morning for the ceremony.
Vaibhav won’t play today’s match against Manipur because he is in Delhi to attend the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award ceremony. He will be honoured at the ceremony. He had to report at 7 AM for the ceremony,” said Ojha.
What did PM Modi say about Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
A few days earlier, during a discussion, Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that “Indian sports have entered a new era where merit, not influence, decides success. He pointed out that earlier generations faced unfair systems, a lack of transparency, and limited opportunities.
Today, young athletes are excelling because they are competing on equal ground, supported by transparent selection processes and better infrastructure” (translated from Hindi). The 14-year-old could potentially meet the Prime Minister post the ceremony’s conclusion.
Why has Vaibhav Suryavanshi been out of the rest of the tournament?
After attending the ceremony, Suryavanshi will travel to Zimbabwe, as India’s U19 squad begins preparations for the upcoming U19 World Cup, starting on January 15.
“He will miss the remainder of the Vijay Hazare Trophy because he has to get in sync for the U19 World Cup and hence will link up with the rest of the Indian team for preparatory matches,” the childhood coach claimed.
Suryavanshi was part of India’s recent U19 Asia Cup campaign, where the team finished runners-up after suffering a heavy defeat to Pakistan in a one-sided final.
