Australia last toured Zimbabwe in 2018.

Australia and Zimbabwe are set to face off in a three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe next year. The two teams will play against each other in Zimbabwe for the first time since 2018. The Aussies toured the southern African nation for a tri-series that also involved Pakistan.

This series will be of significance for both Zimbabwe Cricket and Australia as the former are the co-hosts of the next ICC Cricket World Cup in 2027. They would want a big-ticket series against a side like the Aussies to set things in motion before the biggest showpiece of cricket takes place in 2027.

The three-match ODI series, as reported by News Corp, comes as a major development for Zimbabwe cricket, aiming to establish their presence in international cricket again. However, there are no test matches involved in the Kangaroos’ tour to Zimbabwe next year. Reports suggest Zimbabwe had their hopes high for a one-off test match against the Kangaroos.

Australia’s action-packed schedule in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) does not leave too much room for accommodating more test matches. The Aussies will be playing more than fifteen test matches till the Ashes in England in 2027.

Zimbabwe and Australia last played a test match in 2003 in a two-match series, which is famous for Matthew Hayden’s record-breaking triple century in Perth.

New venue in Zimbabwe on the cards to host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027

Zimbabwe are gearing up to co-host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 with South Africa and Namibia. The preparations are in full swing, and a new stadium is also undergoing construction. An under-construction 10,000-seat stadium at Victoria Falls can be one of the venues for the ODI World Cup.

The stadium will not be ready to host the One-Day Internationals against the Aussies, prompting Zimbabwe Cricket to fall back on Harare as one of the venues for the series. Bulawayo is also one of the probable options to host Australia.

When will Australia tour Zimbabwe for the ODI series?

The defending ODI World Cup champions will tour Zimbabwe for the ODI series in the latter half of 2026.

How many matches will the Aussies play in Zimbabwe?
