Four Australian batsmen have hit 30 or more hundreds in test cricket.

The Australian Cricket Team have been blessed with several great batsmen of all time, the biggest name among them being Sir Don Bradman, followed by the likes of Ricky Ponting and now Steve Smith has made a huge mark in the test arena.

Australia’s strong batting lineup has been a cornerstone of their dominance in test cricket. Despite their challenging home conditions, which offer extra bounce and seam movement, some Australian batsmen have consistently brought up triple-figure scores.

On that note, let’s take a look at the list of top five Australian batsmen with the most centuries in test cricket.

5. Don Bradman – 29

Hailed by many as the greatest batsman in test cricket, Sir Don Bradman scored 29 test centuries for Australia. The most astonishing feat of Bradman’s career remains his unbelievable average of 99.94!

Bradman finished his career with 6996 runs in 80 innings. His highest individual score of 334 came against England in Leeds in 1930.

4. Matthew Hayden – 30

Legendary Australian opener Matthew Hayden is regarded as Australia’s finest opener of all time. Nicknamed “Haydos,” Hayden amassed 8625 runs in his test career at an outstanding average of 51.

Hayden holds the record for the most test centuries by an Australian opener, recording an impressive tally of 30. Furthermore, his top score of 380 runs is also the highest by any Australian batsman in the longest format of the game.

3. Steve Waugh – 32

Former Australian skipper Steve Waugh is one of the most elegant batsmen to have graced the game. He also is among the most successful Aussie batters.

Waugh scored 10,927 test runs with the help of 32 centuries in a career that spanned nearly two decades. One of the unique features of Waugh’s batting was his minimal footwork and brilliant hand-eye coordination.

2. Steve Smith – 34

Modern-day great Steve Smith has scored second-most test centuries for Australia, with 34 hundreds to his name. Considered by many as Australia’s greatest test batsman since Don Bradman, Smith has scored over 9949 runs at an average of 56.52.

Smith has played numerous match-winning innings for Australia, both home and away. His feat in the Ashes 2019 series in England, having returned from his year-long ban, is part of cricketing folklore.

Smith’s highest test score is 239, which he made against England in Perth in the 2017/18 Ashes.

1. Ricky Ponting – 41

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting holds the record for the most hundreds in test cricket for Australia. In his 17-year-long test career from 1995 to 2012, Ponting notched up 41 centuries in 168 tests at an average of 51.85. Ponting’s highest test score of 257 came against India in Melbourne in 2003.

Apart from being a brilliant batsman, Ponting stands as one of the most successful test captains of all time with a win percentage of 62.33%.
